CHICAGO — Gerald Cernak, aka Daddy G, won the Mr. Chicago Leather 2017 title on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Leather Archives & Museum.
Daddy G was one of two contestants in this year’s contest, well down from past years. IML 2003 John Pendal came back for his 14th run as contest emcee.
The contest weekend, which also included brunches and classes by Kink U, started as the immigration ban by the Trump administration took effect. “I made it just before the border closed,” he said. He did tell those in the audience who were worried and scared in the new administration to reach out to others in the community for support.
The judges for this year’s contest were:
- Mr. Chicago Leather 2016 Todd Harris
- International Mister Leather 38 David “Tigger” Bailey
- International Ms. Bootblack 1999 Leslie Anderson
- Mr. 501 Eagle 2016 Eric Masters
- Mr. Midwest Rubber 2016 Pup Icarus
The tallymasters were Mr. Midwest Leather 2015 Adam “Pup Vino” Henderson and Mr. Chicago Leather 2015 Luis Tipantasig. Mr. Chicago Leather 2014 Miguel Torres served as den daddy.
Leslie also received this year’s Chuck Windemuth Community Service Award, given to those dedicated to mentoring and educating those in the community.
The event weekend kept up its growth in attendence with weekend packages and contest only tickets selling out the week before. Touche, the original home of the contest, still hosted brunches and the roast of outgoing MCL Todd.
Daddy G will represent the city at International Mr. Leather during Memorial Day weekend in Chicago.
