Love slimy creatures breaking through people’s stomachs? Of course you do! So go see Prometheus. I was excited for this film because of Alien. It was a good science-fictiony movie but I wasn’t all that impressed by the end. I guess I had just high expectations. The graphics kicked ass, there was some good action and violent scenes with plenty of slimy alien stuff, but the plot had some holes and character development didn’t happen at all.
The plot asks a lot of questions and there’s a lot of wondering by the audiences but we never truly learn the answers. So you know what the means. Sequel. There are definite connections to Alien but that doesn’t mean you won’t understand the film if you haven’t seen Alien, which is plus for all viewers.
Directed by Ridley Scott, the film is set far into the future. It follows a crew on the spaceship Prometheus as they investigate discovered remnants of ancient Earth cultures. They end up in an area unlike anything they’ve ever seen. Their plan is to discover the beginnings of humanity, but instead find something that could cause the extinction of the human race. Clearly the opposite of what they were going for.
The plot was an interesting idea, even though it’s been done before but it was pretty disorganized. What saves the messy plot is the thrills and chills of aliens and awesome visual effects. There’s religion, horror, philosophy, and science all poured into one pot. Compared to Alien, it doesn’t compare but standing on its own, it delivers.
It was worth seeing. Personally, I would have rather seen more aliens going inside people’s bodies than anything else. There was too much dialogue between characters that nobody cares about. But, when they got back to the action, I was satisfied. It’s being compared to classic sci-fi films and it shouldn’t be because it’s not going to be a classic movie that we will talk about for years to come. Anyone who simply enjoys aliens and science fiction movies will enjoy this movie. It won’t win best picture but it’s just a good, not great, sci-fi ride.
