CHICAGO — Trident Windy City’s annual Cupcake Wars fundraiser raised a record $2,500 for the Broadway Youth Center on Sunday, April 2.

The backpatch club invited clubs and organizations from across Chicago to participate in its annual bake-off. All money raised goes to support BYC, the Howard Brown Health Center’s youth center. The BYC offers refuge, medical care, social services, clothes and other care to LGBTQ youth. BYC staff member Kylon Hooks said the money raised would help fund three to four months of BYC’s services.

Kylon was one of the judges for the competition. He was joined by Windy City Times editor Kirk Williamson and Mr. Chicago Leather 2017 Daddy G.

Four prizes were awarded: Fan Favorite, Judges’ Choice, Raise the Dough (for additional fundraising) and Master Baker (which takes the scores from all the others into account).

The Illinois Leather Alliance won Fan Favorite with strawberry lemon tarts, the Windy City Abbey of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence won Judges’ Choice with bloody mary cornbread cupcakes, and the Leather 6410 leather store won for both Raise the Dough (raising $600 alone) and Master Baker with meat loaf cupcakes.

Other organizations participating included the Chicago Rubbermen, Chicago Beach Munch, God Damn Munch, LRA-Chicago, Chicago Leather Club, Touche and M.A.F.I.A.
