Trans Beach Party 2017: Get Your Pride! June 17

CHICAGO — In collaboration with the organizers of the previous Trans Pride Beach Parties, the Trans Liberation Collective is proud to bring to the community the first of TWO trans beach parties this year!!

Trans Beach Party 2017: Get Your Pride! is a public, loving and affirming gathering for all trans people to gather and be our true selves, while reclaiming a space that has historically been hostile to trans bodies. We are holding this celebration in June this year in order to make space during LGBT Pride Month for trans and GNC bodies, and to actively combat the gentrification and CisGayYt-domination of traditional Pride festivities.

We will bask in the power and love of Sylvia Rivera, Marsha P. Johnson, and all of our Trancestors while we celebrate the beauty, diversity, love, and strength of our community together… on a beach!! Come get your pride!!

Location: Hollywood Beach —-look for the trans pride flags!!
Time: 10AM-5PM
******** 10AM-12PM are FAMILY HOURS for trans children and youth to come and participate in the beach party!! All are welcome the entire event, but please be aware that for the first two hours, we want to keep the environment friendly for children*******

What to bring: your coolers, chairs, beach wear & any trans pride flags or other visibility is welcome but not required! If you would like to contribute a donation toward refreshments please contact the Trans Liberation Collective; You can also just bring food, drink, or ice to contribute!

Parking is not great in Edgewater but you can park on side streets a few blocks away (no permit needed).

CTA – Thorndale is the closest redline stop (with a healthy walk to the beach following). The Sheridan bus will take you right up to Ardmore where the main entrance is located

Bikes- there are bike racks located at both Hollywood and Ardmore. You can bike right up the beach lakefront path to arrive.

What the park district doesn’t allow:
-The beaches do not allow alcohol*****
-The beaches do not allow smoking****
-The beaches do not permit amplified music. So, if you were planning on bringing your PA system, please leave it at home! Small bluetooth device speakers are okay.

What the beaches DO have:
-There are gendered bathrooms and a **family restroom** please be mindful and use the buddy system when accessing restrooms (when possible). Please let folks know if you need support accesing bathrooms or exiting/entering the beach.
-A restaurant where you can buy food if you wish. You can also purchase alcohol but it must stay on their patio.
-Beach umbrella and lounge chair rental located in between Ardmore and Hollywood on the sand. You’ll see a big blue tent. These can be rented and prices range around $5 for each item.

If you want to contribute, you can bring the following to share:
-extra blankets
-trans pride flags (you probably have at least 4 or 5 sitting around)
-any extra food or snacks that you would like to share!
-any other beach party time materials you would be willing to share
*There is a boardwalk for accessibility needs closest to the water near the Hollywood beach.
