Transgender Day of Remembrance in Illinois

CHICAGO — As the annual time to remember transgender members of the LGBTQ community that have been lost, communities across the state are planning events and vigils.

Sunday, Nov. 19

Trans Day of Remembrance Reframing

Sunday at 1:30 PM – 6 PM

Brave Space Alliance, 1434 W 51st St, Chicago, Illinois 60609

1:30pm: Doors Open

2pm – 3pm: Don’t Be a Drag: Confronting Racism in the Trans Community Workshop with America in Transition, Episode TBD

America in Transition is a documentary series that explores family, community, and social change for trans people of color.

3 pm: TLC’s 1st TDoR March for Liberation

TLC is seeking to radically reframe our community’s observance of TDoR. We do not see it as a day where our community wallows in sorrow, rather, we see it as yet another opportunity for Chicago’s trans and GNC community to show our power and strength. Our community has a long tradition of mourning in the streets, and we believe that TDoR should be no different. We will take the streets and march for our collective joy, liberation, and power as we remember the lives and names of those we have lost in the past calendar year to transphobic violence. A rally will conclude the march, where we will hear the words of liberation from the lips of our community’s leaders.

4:30 pm – 6 pm: Community Space at Brave Space Aliiance

Gather after the March to connect with other members of Chicago’s trans and GNC community, and be in power and love with our siblings in the struggle. While you’re here, take a look around the fabulous confines of the Let Us Breathe space, home of Brave Space Alliance! Refreshments will be served =)
