CHICAGO — Pride Arts Center has announced a new, monthly LGBTQ film festival in Chicago.
Called the Pride Film Festival, it will feature new and independent features, documentaries and shorts the second Tuesday of each month. It kicks off on January 9. This month’s theme will be Issues, Anxieties and Obsessions.
Another Day (Rozana) – Directed by Raj Rishi More, India, 11 min.
An abstract from a woman’s life who is trapped in the institution of marriage and tries to find solace in the memories of her past. These memories holds a secret that she has never shared with anyone but how long can she endure it?
Pixelle – Directed by Alex Di Cuffa, U.K., 11 min.
Priya, a young woman stuck in a dead-end job she hates, expresses a desire to spend time with a woman she’s been chatting with on a lesbian chat room for over a year. As the pair spend the day together we realise that not is all it seems, with both women having elements of their lives that they hide and their own insecurities.
Shala – Directed by Joao Inacio, Brazil, 10 min.
Shala is the story about Pedro, a young boy living in an orphanage in Amazon who has a hard time being adopted because of several prejudices, which includes the cruel indifference of adoptive parents towards children in his age group. The boy creates situations to draw the attention of adoptive parents, while at the same time creating an imaginary friendship with his only toy, a doll named “Shala.”
Sunset – Directed by Katie Ennis & Gary S. Jaffe, USA, 15 min.
In the days following Pearl Harbor, a young man must decide whether to serve overseas or stay in New York with his streetwise male lover.
Today and Tomorrow and the Day After That – Directed by Samuel James Bellamy, USA, 6 min.
Walker fears his worsening anxiety will be a burden to his boyfriend, Carson, and must decide to say anything at risk of Carson leaving.
Used – Directed by Rolando Nieves, USA, 15 min.
“Used” is a documentary that explores the underground world of men’s used underwear buying and selling. Director Rolando Nieves chronicles a young man as he attempts to sell his used underwear for the first time and presents the lives of three men deep within the world and the clinical point of view of a medical professional.
Versatile – Directed by Carlos Ocho, Spain, 15 min.
Alex and Hugo are a young couple who had been together for a little more than six months. One Friday night, when they arrive at Alex’s flat, they will discuss some pending issues about their relationship sexual roles. What seems to start as a simple discussion will become something more serious exposing some important issues about the necessary things needed to make a relationship work.
Xavier – Directed by Giovanni Coda, Italy, 8 min.
A police officer dies. Xavier depicts 12 hours of a couple’s life before the killing and the subsequent desperation, which finds its peak in the letter in which one of the men tells to terrorists “You will not have my hate”.
