We Have Always Been Here: A History of the Two Spirit Movement, Nov. 1

URBANA — The Native American House at University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana, will be hosting a presentation in association with the LGBT Resource Center at the Illini Union.

In collaboration of LBGT History Month and the beginning of Native November, LBGT Resource Center and the Native American House will host this presentation which will situate LBGT and Two Spirit activism with in the larger history of Indigenous, gender, sexuality and kinship in the US and Canada. Dr. Jenny Davis is a former Co-Director of the Denver Two Spirit Society and Tulsa Two Spirit Society and co-organizer of the 2009 International Two Spirit Gathering whose research examines the linguistic negotiations of Indigenous gender and sexuality. Ryan Young is a multi-disciplinary two-spirit artist completing their BFA in studio arts at IAIA, their work focuses on the intersections of culture, gender and sexual identity. They are a fashion photographer for Native Max Magazine and were selected as the designing artist for Eighth Generations latest blanket design.

The presentation is Thursday, Nov. 1, and starts at 6 p.m.
