Jackson County Health Department, in conjunction with the LIFE Community Center, is hosting a 5K Run/Walk to honor World AIDS Day. The goal is to raise awareness, funds, and educate the people of Southern Illinois on the risks of HIV.

Early registration ends November 16, but participants can still register the day-of. The event will take place at the LIFE Community Center, located at 2500 West Sunset Drive, Carbondale, IL 62901.

From the fundraiser website:

Are you ready for some FUN this Holiday season?  Want to support a great cause, oh and did we mention…FUN!!!  The event supports the 30th Anniversary of World AIDS Day.  Preregistration is $30 and Registration on the day of the event will be $35.  In the event of inclement weather, the run/walk will be cancelled but the event will continue indoors, please join us!

This event, is the first of it’s kind in southern Illinois and is being organized by an amazing group of volunteers from Jackson County Health Department and other community based organizations. We are so very excited to help bring people together and raise awareness for people living with and at risk for HIV/AIDS in southern Illinois.  The event is scheduled for December 1, 2018, World AIDS Day, a day to honor those that have fought the long hard battle and lost, as well as, to center around HIV/AIDS awareness.

For our die-hard race fans, River-to-River Timing will be providing the official timing for this official 5K course and event.

We have also provided the option of a virtual race,  This is a race that can be run (or walked)  from any location you choose.  You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill, at the gym or on the track (or even at another race). You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself.  Plus, you are providing the same level of support that those present on race day are providing!

Come in your professional run attire or have some holiday fun and dress it up!
