CHICAGO — World AIDS Day, an annual event to commemorate the battle against HIV and AIDS, is every December 1. Many groups and cities across Illinois have events planned for the day.

World AIDS Day Indoor Street Fest

DIFFA/Chicago and Center on Halsted present the 2nd Annual Stand Up For Red World AIDS Day Indoor Street Fest at @CenterOnHalsted on Thursday, November 29, 2018. Chicago’s most creative event to celebrate World AIDS Day and to keep the fight alive to end HIV/AIDS and combat stigma. Plus, you’ll have a whole lot of fun at the same time.

Living with HIV

You’re invited to TPAN’s observance of World AIDS Day with a special program, 11a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1.

The event begins with a meet-and-mingle over coffee, tea, and snacks, followed by “Living with HIV,” a group discussion covering such topics as stigma and aging. After lunch, “This is TPAN” will feature TPAN staff members talking about the roles they serve in the programs and services offered by the agency.

Peoria World AIDS Day

Join us from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Peoria, IL Carver Community Center as we have guest speakers helping us remember the past, celebrate the present, and recognize how far we have yet to go.

A lot has happened in the world of HIV and it’s on days as iconic as World AIDS Day, that we come together to talk about things like “Getting To Zero, Ending Stigma, U equals U, PrEP” and many more important facts about our public health.

Later that night, we will go live at the lighting of the tree for the entire month of December to raise awareness about HIV.

Springfield Urban League and the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Center for Minority Health are hosting an event on November 30, 2018, at University of Illinois, Springfield, for World AIDS Day. It will take place in the Student Union building from 2pm-5pm. There will be a movie documentary viewing and panel discussion following. We will be providing HIV and HEP C screenings and Walgreens will also be providing flu shots.

In honor of World AIDS Day on December we’re hosting a candlelight vigil hosted in conjunction with LGBT RSO’s, the LGBT Resource Center, The UP Center, and Greater Commuity AIDS Project.

We will be gathering in west side park to remember those who have passed and those still living with HIV/AIDS. We will have a speech from members from GCAP speaking on AIDS and the work they have done to help those affected by it.

Afterwards we will have an informal dinner gathering in downtown Champaign.
