Town hall about LGBTQ teens set with Germantown Schools
GERMANTOWN HILLS — A town hall has been set at a Central Illinois school district where a principal said students discussing their LGBTQ orientations was “disruptive.”
Peoria Proud passed on the news about the town hall and set up an event to let community supporters know where and when it is.
From the Facebook event:
Earlier this week, Germantown Local Schools released a statement marginalizing the importance of LGBTQ+ expression in their schools. Superintendent Dan Mair has deemed talk about sexual orientation to be a significant disruption to the school environment. These comments demean and ostracize LGBTQ+ youth by preventing them from healthy expression in school – which needs to be a safe space for all children.
Germantown Local Schools has since organized a town hall meeting to discuss concerns and questions surrounding these comments. Join us at this meeting, where we hope to make our voices heard that we will not stand for the silencing of LGBTQ expression, particularly in our schools.
The town hall will be this coming Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m. The address is 103 Warrior Way in Germantown Hills.
