CHICAGO — A celebration of life will be held on Dec. 29 for Dennis Murray, a former Illinois Bear Cub, who passed away earlier this month after a long battle against esophageal cancer.
From the Facebook event:
We will be gathering with Dennis’ ohana to celebrate the man that we were blessed to have in our lives. We will have a chance to mingle with people from all parts of his life and get to learn more about him as we share stories and memories.
A special thanks to the Jackhammer for supplying some refreshments.
Donations will be accepted for Dennis’ chosen charity, St. Judes Hospital. Dennis chose St. Judes because he would rather have had a child live a long and productive cancer-free life than for that money and time to be spent on an “old man” like himself. He also thought that if they could cure a childhood cancer, it was only a matter of time before they found a cure for his cancer.
Murray was active in the bear communities of Chicago and Central Illinois and continued to raise awareness and funds for cancer research after his title year.
For those who are unable to attend, the organizers are suggesting a direct donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
