EVANSVILLE — The Tri-State LGBTQ community is planning a protest to support Drag Queen Story Hour at the Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library.
From the Facebook event:
Protest in favor of Drag Queen Story Hour! We will meet at 5pm on Monday Jan. 14 in front of the Civic Center, 1 NW Martin L King Jr Blvd. in Evansville to Support Drag Queen Story Hour and protest Justin Elpers’ attack on the event and the local library. Then at 5:30 pm we will attend the City Council meeting to address the issue during public comment.
Note: the City Council is not in charge of the local library. This makes it even stranger that Justin Elpers has taken the position that this is the most important issue in the city today.
Drag Queen Story Hour has been a big issue in this city near the Illinois-Indiana border. Evansville City Councilman Justin Elpers called the event “reprehensible” on his Facebook page and state Sen. Jim Tomes, called the event “immoral” in a tweet and asked for signatures on a petition opposing it.
There is a petition to keep the event at the library.
