PEORIA — A coalition of groups will be holding the annual Peoria Women’s March on Saturday, March 9.
From the Facebook event:
We will honor International Women’s Day (the day before our event, with a proud history of 110 years) and the month of March as Women’s History Month. But most of all, we will honor the women of our central Illinois communities, our state, our nation and the world.
Peoria’s third annual Women’s March event will bring together speakers, issues, music, and inspiration to sustain us in moving forward to support the rights of women and to fight for the empowerment of women everywhere.
“This is a local march, organized by a coalition of women and allies across the central Illinois region. We come to this event and this movement with an understanding of and an appreciation for the perspectives and experiences that have shaped us collectively as well as individually. Our movement is made richer by our differences of culture, race, ethnicity, religion, orientation, and more. As a grassroots effort, this day is a celebration of what unites us as women. On this day we stand in solidarity in our shared value for social justice.”
Join us on March 9! Bring your signs and your energy. Hosted by Peoria IL – National Organization for Women, Tazewell-Woodford National Organization for Women, Heart of Illinois Group Sierra Club, ACLU of IL – Peoria Area Chapter, Change Peoria, Black Justice Project, and Indivisible Peoria Area.
