SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois House of Representatives voted Wednesday to add a non-binary gender designation to state-issued ID cards and drivers licenses.
Equality Illinois said on their Facebook page that the bill pass with a vote of 67-38.
If passed by the State Senate and signed into law, it would require “non-binary” to be a choice alongside “male” and “female” and included in information on an ID card or driver’s licence.
The bill now goes to the Senate. It’s House Bill 3534 “Gender Designations.” You can read the full text of the bill here.
