SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Senate passed the Retain Illinois Students and Equity (RISE) Act on Wednesday.

The bill would make it easier for marginalized students, including undocumented and transgender students, get financial aid and raise the number of credit hours a student can take before their state aid runs out to help students who have to take remedial classes.

The bill passed the Senate 35-15. It passed the House last month. It now goes to Gov. J.B. Pritzker to be signed.
