LUMBERTON — Chanel Scurlock, a transgender woman in North Carolina, has become the latest person lost to anti-transgender violence.
Scurlock was killed last week.
The Robesonian of Lumberton, N.C. reported that Scurlock had been found shot in a field near the town. The county sheriff is investigating. The newspaper misgendered and deadnamed her in its reporting.
According to the Human Rights Campaign, Scurlock is the ninth transgender woman of color killed this year.by
