Rainbow Cafe raises more than $1,100 with bingo fundraiser

CARBONDALE — The Rainbow Cafe LGBT Youth Center raised $1,152 during a fundraiser this past Sunday.

The Drag Bingo fundraiser was hosted by Southern Illinois Pride Queen Sister Blanche DuBois at The Varsity Center in Carbondale.

Joining DuBois were Southern Illinois Pride King Faim Lee Jewls, Christina Garnette, Miss Gay Cape Girardeau MO USofA 2019 Idina Rimes, Kailey Kreme – Santana, Korra DeVi, Holly Haliwell, Mr. Southern Illinois Pride Christopher Matthews and Ms. Southern Illinois Pride Mystique Garnette.

All money raised went to the Rainbow Cafe, which serves LGBTQ youth in Southern Illinois, and the Gaia House Interfaith Center of Carbondale.

The Rainbow Cafe thanked many people for the success of the fundraiser.

Now that the dust has settled, HUGE THANKS to our Southern Illinois Pride Queen Sister Blanche DuBois, hostess of our Drag Bingo fundraiser on Sunday! All of our performers were amazing, and shout outs go to Christina Garnette and Idina Rimes for fabulous donations and working the desk; Southern Illinois Pride King Faim Lee Jewls for the great work with the crowd, Kailey Kreme – Santana and Korey Klausing, a.k.a. Korra DeVil for running prizes; Mr. Southern Illinois Christopher Matthews; Jodie Santana for all of the behind-the-scenes help and for education in HIV prevention; Otis James Duncan and Sandy Pensoneau-Conway for helping run the event; Carrie Sinclair Vine for help with donations and prizes; Gaia House volunteers Patrick Jones, Elana Floyd-Kennett, Karen Laurent, and Ellen Elizabeth for set up, tear down and pizza / baked goods table; Jana South and Danielle Schultz for baking cookies, and a special thanks to a special youth for the amazing snickerdoodles (Shannon Green).

And finally, to our host The Varsity Center and all of the great people there. We appreciate everyone’s contributions and help in supporting our youth and our community.
