AURORA — The organizers of Aurora’s Pride celebration announced Wednesday that they are now an independent organization.

The city’s Pride celebration, which became the first major Pride outside Chicago a few years ago, has been organized by Indivisible Aurora until Wednesday.

The announcement was made on Aurora Pride’s Facebook page.

Aurora Pride is a 501(c)3 organization, meaning it is focused on education and that it can accept tax-deductible donations.

The group thanked Indivisible Aurora and the community for their support. The post also said that Aurora Pride does support many of the same goals as Indivisible Aurora, the change would allow the organizers to focus fully on Pride while Indivisible Aurora continues its activism on immigration, voter education and other progressive causes.
