BUSHNELL — The Cancer’s a Drag show on Saturday, Oct. 5, raised around $6,500 in its sixth outing.

Money raised during the event went to benefit Linda’s Fund and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

State representative candidate Emiliano Vera was one of those participating this year.

“My grampa had performed for the past 5 years, since we learned about my grandma’s breast cancer diagnosis, and she was a judge one year too,” Vera said. “This was my first year, and I had fun doing a duet with my grampa, in honor of my grandma.”

Vera said the event has also become a celebration of the LGBTQ community in western Illinois and Bushnell’s biggest event.

Vera, however, didn’t win. The winners are:

  • Matt Sinclair – Queen
  • Derek Payne – Runner up
  • Jordan Tyson – People’s Choice.

The emcees were Jonny Miller and Jackson Powell.
