CARBONDALE — Gaia House will host a Queermas celebration on Sunday, Dec. 15.
From the Facebook event page:
A lot of transgender and queer folk generally have difficulty around the holidays, due to non supportive families or stress related to conventionally religious holidays. Transitions hosts this event to focus on filling that emotional space that so often goes unfulfilled due to these holiday-related stressors. Trans individuals and families of all ages are welcome.
Attendees are encouraged to bring story passages, song lyrics, poetry, verses, quotes from people, movies, or television, or other related material to read aloud as a group! The only uniting theme for these readings is that the material mean a lot to you or be inspiring in hopes of lifting each other up!
Games and Karaoke:
Expect games like Uno, Monopoly, Apples to Apples, and other traditional board games to chill out, socialize, and make friends! In addition, we’ll also be hosting a series of Jackbox games in the main room!
Ugly Sweater Competition:
Folk are able to nominate themselves to participate in an ugly sweater competition and vote on who’s outfit they like best throughout the night! The winner will be announced at the end of the night and will win a small door prize!
For those wishing to participate in the exchange, gifts are recommended to be between $5 to $10 in value!
Food and Drink (alcohol-free)
Gaia House is at 913 S. Illinois Ave. in Carbondale.
