FRANKFORT — Kentucky Gov.-elect Andy Beshear has appointed former Lexington Mayor Jim Gray as transportation secretary.
Gray came out as gay in 2005 and was elected to two terms as the mayor of the state’s second largest city.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported that Gray said the new role will be a “challenge” for him and considers it “an honor and an incredible opportunity.”
Before being elected mayor, Gray ran Gray Construction, a company that specialized in the construction of large facilities.
The Herald-Leader reported that Gray will head a department of 4,100 employees.
