SPRINGFIELD — The State of Illinois announced that there were 128 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday afternoon.

In a press release, the state department of public health said that brought the number of cases in the state to 288 in 17 counties. Most of the cases were in urban areas such as the Chicago metro area, MetroEast and other metro areas of the state. Cook County still has the largest number at 178.

The state also said that an additional 20 have been found at a long-term care facility in DuPage County, bringing that total to 42, both residents and staff.

Cases by county can be found on the IDPH website, as well as a list of local health departments who will have the most up to date information.

The health department reminded people to take social distancing measures:

  • Staying home as much as possible
  • If gatherings are necessary, limiting the number of people to 10
  • Calling to check on family, neighbors, and older adults instead of visiting
  • Checking with your provider about telehealth options
