CHAMPAIGN — The University of Illinois LGBT Resource Center, and all departments of the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR) are closing their facilities due to coronavirus.
The university announced the closure of physical facilities and adaptions on Tuesday in a formal announcement:
Over the course of the past week, you have received a number of communications from President Killeen, Chancellor Jones, and Vice Chancellor Young regarding information on the campus response to COVID-19. In the spirit of a coordinated community response, the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR) offers the following updates specific to its eight units, which are the Asian American Cultural Center; Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center; Diversity & Social Justice Education; International Education; La Casa Cultural Latina; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center; Native American House; and Women’s Resources Center.
Office Hours and Accessibility
To support social distancing practices, OIIR and its units will be closed to the public. Staff in these units will continue to work remotely and can be reached via phone or e-mail during regular business hours (Monday thru Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm).
We will adopt our programs to consider the needs of individuals with different abilities in the implementation of virtual and remaining in-person services. If you have an accommodation needs, please contact OIIR or the specific unit as soon as possible.
Students, staff, and faculty needing confidential advising services related to sexual assault and harassment, stalking, sexual exploitation, and abuse within a relationship are still able to access services through the Women’s Resources Center, with the following modifications:
- In person services are temporarily suspended.
- Phone/virtual advocacy and support for new, past, or currently-served survivors and their support persons is available Monday-Friday from 9:00am – 5:00pm.

For free after hours (and 24/7) confidential support, call the RACES Hotline (for sexual assault issues) at (217) 384-4444 or the Domestic Violence Hotline at (877) 384-4390.
OIIR events, programs and room reservations that are University-sponsored or hosted by Registered Student Organizations are suspended indefinitely. The suspension includes award ceremonies, tours, and congratulatory events. This policy is effective Friday, March 13th.
OIIR welcomes the submission of space requests for summer and fall events and activities. Please note that cancellations may occur, should considerations for public health and safety experience an extension into the summer months.
