SPRINGFIELD — The Phoenix Center in Springfield announced that this year’s Pridefest, set for May 16, has been cancelled.

The LGBTQ community center made the announcement on their Facebook page.

In a letter posted on the page, the center said that the CDC is warning the peak of the virus may not come for another six to eight weeks. Since Pridefest is less than 60 days away and following guidance from the CDC, Illinois government and federal government, the festival is being cancelled.

They thanked the sponsors and vendors who had already committed to this year’s event and would be issuing refunds when center staff were able to return to work. The center said they are planning for Pridefest to return on May 15, 2021.

This would have been the tenth year for the event.
