BOLINGBROOK — Bolingbrook Pride announced on Tuesday that it was cancelling the third annual Picnic & Puppies event.
The event was planned for Sunday, June 14 at the Bolingbrook Performing Arts Center.
From their event page:
Bolingbrook Pride has been closely monitoring all recommendations related to the current public health crisis. We have had many meetings with the board and planning committee as well. Having done these things and weighed all outcomes, we have determined that holding our 2020 Picnic and Puppies event as planned would risk the health and safety of our beloved community. So, it is with a heavy heart that Bolingbrook Pride has decided to cancel the Pride and Puppies Picnic for this year.
We are, however, hosting many virtual events in the coming months including a bi-weekly movie watch party, monthly book club, Jackbox game night, and Bingo with more ideas in the works. We are still planning for our large Gayla event on September 19th, and a Second Annual Friendsgiving as well in November. We will continue to provide many fun activities, support, and resources to the local LGBTQ+ community, and we hope you will continue to join with us in our future endeavors. We would be open to and grateful for ways we could partner virtually as well. Let us know any ideas you may have or if you’d like to join our existing activities!
Please contact us with any concerns or questions as well. Thank you again and stay safe and healthy! With Pride,Allaina Humphreys
Co-Chair, Bolingbrook Pride Planning Committee
With the cancellation, Bolingbrook joins a long list of communities that have either cancelled or postponed Pride celebrations because of coronavirus. Other communities that have had to change plans include Alton, Aurora, Buffalo Grove, Carbondale, Chicago, Peoria, Springfield and MetroEast.
