EDWARDSVILLE — The Madison County Health Board voted Tuesday to start reopening businesses on Wednesday.
St. Louis CBS affiliate KMOV reported that the vote was pushed by Board Chairman Kurt Prenzler. Under the resolution, businesses in the county will open in phases. Restaurants, gyms and salons could open as early as Wednesday with restrictions. Restaurants, retail shops and gyms must only allow 25 percent of their capacity and salons will have to limit customers to appointment only.
“We’re not talking about something that would happen immediately, we’re talking about a phased plan,” Prenzler told the TV station.
As of Tuesday night, Madison County had 445 coronavirus cases, the 12th highest in the state. At least 32 residents of the county have died of the disease.
In the Tuesday press conference, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker were putting their residents at risk by not listening to epidemiologists and “going it alone” to reopen.
