ROCK ISLAND — The Clock Inc LGBT Community Center in Rock Island is doing a fundraiser during Pride month.
The center is running the fundraiser, called Pride Challenge, on Facebook.
For half a century, Pride Month has allowed LGBT+ individuals to come together and celebrate our diverse identities. The tradition of celebrating LGBT+ Pride in the month of June began with the Stonewall Riots on June 28, 1969. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States, which is why in Clock, Inc’s logo you will notice the hands of time are always set to 6:28.
Clock, Inc relies on donations from members of the community who walk through our doors. Due to COVID-19, Clock, Inc has been unable to provide a safe space and essential resources to members of the community for the past few months. This pandemic has not only impacted Clock, Inc’s funding, but the collateral effect on the clients’ family members, friends, and relevant social services as well.
Clock is challenging individuals to make a donation of $28 to Clock, Inc in honor of the date of the Stonewall Riots and the amazing resilience of the LGBT+ community. Through this challenge, we hope to raise a total of $4,200 to help us continue our mission of providing a safe space for LGBT+ individuals during this difficult time.
To express our gratitude for your donation, Clock, Inc would like to offer everyone who takes on this challenge an exclusive Clock, Inc hand flag, which you can use to show your pride and dedication to your community while maintaining social distance this Pride Month!
I understand that Clock, Inc is not alone right now in the financial struggles we face. This is a difficult time for everyone, and the wellbeing of our community members will always be our number one priority. If you cannot donate the full $28, any donation will make a huge difference to us!
Let us celebrate the 51st Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots!
The decision is yours… Do you accept this challenge?
