Rockford to see another protest against racism, police brutality tonight

ROCKFORD — A protest and police brutality and racism is planned for 5 p.m. tonight at Rockford’s Saturn Park.

Tonight’s protest is being organized by Rockford Youth Activism and goes until 8 p.m.

From the Facebook event:

We will meet at Saturn Park at 5 P.M. where we will have community members and leaders speak to the crowd about there experiences with police brutality and racism they have faced in and out of Rockford. We will then walk to Forest Plaza where we will have a moment of silence for those loss to police brutality and then walk back to Saturn Park in solidarity.

The Rockford Register-Star reported that this is the third protest in the city since Saturday. Saturday’s protest reportedly had clashes with police. Tuesday’s event, the newspaper said, was changed from  Stand with Minneapolis rally to a March against Rockford Police Department violence in reaction to the clashes against Rockford police.

Tonight’s event is a March Against Police Brutality and Racism.
