CARBONDALE — Today would have been the Southern Il Pride Fest and Pride march. As we struggle with emotions in our current social climate, we condemn violence against and the murders of Black people, minorities, Black trans people, and violence and brutality against those protesting for civil change.
We honor that the first Pride was a riot. We honor our ancestors who have fought for social change, and recognize Black trans women of color who risked so much for that change. We also recognize how far we have to go. No one is equal until we are all equal.
In the face of civil unrest and a global pandemic, it feels very much not the time for celebration. But we do celebrate those who continue this fight. We have taken our 2020 Pride events online for virtual opportunities to honor, celebrate, engage in education and awareness, and create community. The list below is subject to change, as we continue to work on some details:

June 21: Watch Party and Panel Discussion, “Intersections: Black and Queer; Demanding Justice, Making Change” featuring moderator Caleb R. June 26th: 2020 Pride exDRAGaganza! Virtual Drag Show; Virtual Drag Show at 8 pm premires on youtube and Rainbow Cafe social media outlets. Featuring the Southern Il Pride Court Blanche DuBois, Faim Lee Jewls, Christopher Matthews, Shelly Smith, and many other regional performers.

We are also hosting an online art gallery to feature the work of Queer artists, and hope to feature a youth recital and a video collection of personal stories from the trans community. As events finalize, we will release registration, facebook invitations, links, etc!
