DECATUR — Activists are holding a rally for the transgender community Thursday afternoon in Decatur.
The organizers, the People’s Revolutionary Party – Decatur Area, said the rally was to support the trans community after the recent decision by the Trump administration to roll back LGBTQ health protections last week.
From the Facebook event:
Given the recent assault by the trump administration on our Transgender and Genderqueer comrades, we would like to have a rally in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community to show that we are here, queer, and aren’t going anywhere!
We owe our Pride Movement to beautiful Trans women of color, who put their lives on the line to fight for generations to come. Trans folx are already disproportionately endangered in our country, and we will not stand by quietly while their rights are being taken away.
Please wear a mask and practice social distancing. We want to show up but remain safe as always. Bring your flags, signs, and friends – let’s show Decatur how Proud we are.
The rally starts at Franklin and Eldorado in Decatur at 5 p.m.
