BELLEVILLE — Metro East Pride announced Friday morning that they were cancelling Metro East Pride Fest for 2020.
The organization made the announcement on their Facebook page.
Metro East Pride had originally postponed the festival until Aug. 1.
In the post, the organization said they had been working with Belleville and St. Clair County health authorities as the new festival date approached and took the health and safety of volunteers and attendees into account with their decision. Ultimately, they decided it wasn’t safe enough to hold an event of this size.
“We are heartbroken to say we won’t be able to come together as what has grown to be one of the Metro East’s largest festivals known as Metro East Pride Fest,” the group said in the post. “So, while our festival will remain quiet for 2020, we’re still going to be here helping the community in whatever ways we can.”
They did encourage people to share their own Pride moments on Metro East Pride’s Facebook page and said they were still offering 2020 Pride shirts and masks.
