Illinois COVID-19 case count passes 175,000

SPRINGFIELD — The  Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) on Wednesday announced that the state has had 175,124 cases of COVID-19 , including 7,462 deaths.

Cases have been found in all 102 counties in Illinois.

IDPH confirmed 1,393 new cases of coronavirus disease in Illinois on Wednesday, including 18 additional confirmed deaths.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from July 22 -July 28 is 3.8%.  As of last night, 1,491 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 355 patients were in the ICU and 152 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH is reporting both confirmed and probable cases and deaths on its website.  Reporting probable cases will help show the potential burden of COVID-19 illness and efficacy of population-based non-pharmaceutical interventions.  IDPH will update these data once a week.
