AIDS Awareness observance in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — Fifth Street Renaissance/SARA Center and the Phoenix Center are hosting a virtual campaign for International AIDS Awareness Day this December.

From the Facebook event:

Fifth Street Renaissance/SARA Center and the Phoenix Center are partnering to host this virtual campaign to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS at the national and local levels. Join us right here on Facebook on Tuesday, December 1, as we post information, videos, stories, and pictures, shedding light on the history, current challenges, progress, and hope for those facing HIV/AIDS, along with their friends and families. We are planning a small, socially distanced walk around Lincoln Park at 1pm, followed by a vigil to be held at the AIDS Memorial Labyrinth (pending COVID-19 restrictions); this event will be live-streamed as well! These two organizations provide a variety of prevention, outreach, and supportive services to those with HIV/AIDS in our community, yet these services are often underfunded. If you are so moved, please consider donating through our GoFundMe event to help support these important services. And stay tuned toward the end of the day…a big announcement is coming!

The event starts at 1 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
