WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Channahon) has become one of the first Republican lawmakers to call for invoking the 25th amendment to remove Trump from office.

Kinzinger, a frequent Trump critic, made the announcement on social media.

“All indications are that the President has become unmoored, from not just his duty or his oath, but from reality itself,” he said in the video. “It is for this reason I call for the Vice-President and members of the cabinet to ensure the next few weeks are safe for the American people and that we have a sane captain of the ship.”

He called for the cabinet to invoke the 25th amendment and “end this nightmare.”

Kinzinger condemned conspiracy theorists for stoking the flames, laying blame directly on Trump.

“The President caused this, the President is unfit, and the President is unwell,” he said. “And the President must now relinquish control of the Executive Branch voluntarily or involuntarily.”
