Eastern Illinois University to offer LGBTQ residence floor

Eastern Illinois University in Charleston will offer a floor for LGBTQ students in a residence hall starting in the 2021/2022 school year.

NBC affiliate WAND-TV reported that applications will be available in the coming weeks. PRIDE Club and the university’s Center for Gender and Sexual Diversity worked to help put the housing plan together.

The TV station reported that the floor would be at McKinney Hall, a co-ed dorm on the campus.

“Our goal is to is is for all of our students to be comfortable in their living environments. And we just think this is a great example of a group coming together that has a connection with each other or common core beliefs. And and I think it’s, it’s gonna be a very positive experience,” Executive Director of Housing and Dining Mark Hudson told WAND.
