U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-Ga.) has responded to Marie Newman’s (D-La Grange) transgender pride flag by doubling down on the transphobia.

Greene has vocally opposed the Equality Act, to the point of trying to adjourn the session before it could be voted on. That attempt failed, but she hasn’t stopped calling it a threat to women’s rights and “disgusting and immoral.”

Newman, who has a trans daughter and is a co-sponsor of the Equality Act, put a trans pride flag at the door of her congressional office… which happens to be right across the hall from Greene’s.

Newman responded to the the fight on CNN’s New Day.

“It was never meant to be a fight,” Newman told Alisyn Camerota. “It was a statement I felt very necessary. This woman has supported insurrection, she voted against the election, she believes in a wide variety of conspiracy theories, she has been called out any number of times.”

But after Taylor-Greene tried to block the Equality Act, Newman thought it needed to be a bit more direct.

“I just wanted to make a statement that she sees LGBTQ+ people,” she said. The flag was simply so she would see the LGBTQ community. In fact, Newman said she was not concerned with Taylor-Greene’s reaction.

“It’s immaterial to me,” she said. “She can keep going with this whatever she’s doing and I have no interest in it. What I am interested is turning the corner and getting back to the work.”

Newman said that she’s also heard from GOP members who opposed Taylor-Greene’s action. Among those was fellow Illinois representative Adam Kinzinger.

It should be noted that Kinzinger voted against the Equality Act in 2019.

Taylor-Greene’s response is not going over well.

The sign reading “There are TWO genders: MALE & FEMALE ‘Trust The Science’ “, is being seen as a direct jab towards Newman’s daughter.

For the record, science says Taylor-Green is wrong.

People are pushing back.
