Champaign designates street for Black Lives Matter

Champaign, the home of the University of Illinois’ flagship campus, has given a street an honorary designation of Black Lives Matter.

The city council voted to designate Chester Street between Neil and Walnut streets as Black Lives Matter Street a couple weeks ago.

The city put up the signs this week and shared pictures of the new designation on its Facebook page.

Champaign was the site of protests during last year’s George Floyd Uprising.
