School board candidate in Tazwell County under fire for past transphobic tweets

A candidate for the Washington District #308 School Board is getting called out for past transphobic tweets he made.

WMBD, a Peoria CBS affiliate, reported that Jake Miller made the tweets back in 2019. His Twitter account has now been set to private.

About 15 people protested Miller’s tweets at a meet and greet for school board candidates on Tuesday night. Their protest became the lead story on WMBD’s Tuesday night newscast. His tweets used transphobic slurs and called for beating trans students trying to use the bathroom for their gender.

“Just proud of the community for coming together,” said Quinn Oehlke when asked about the attention the protest got. “We had a few local organizations represented at the event. Keep fighting the good fight!!!”

Miller told the TV station that he made the tweets years ago, does not condone violence and has apologized.
