Phoenix Center announces virtual Springfield PrideFest 2021

Springfield PrideFest 2021 has been scheduled virtually for May 15, 2021 from 1p.m. to 7 p.m. This year’s theme is “Home Grown Pride” as we celebrate the strength and resilience of our local Springfield community.

The virtual event will feature live drag performances, celebrity cameos, activities for kids, and performances by Thornhill, a Springfield local band. Prizes will include cash and baskets of items produced by local Springfield businesses.

The festival, which celebrates the spirit, heritage, and culture of the LGBTQ community in central Illinois, was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. The event typically draws 20,000+ attendees from throughout the state and features vendors, live entertainment, and a parade, as well as activities for kids and teenagers.

When asked what makes this year’s PrideFest special, Jonna Cooley, Executive Director, said “this year’s virtual pride is unchartered territory, but we have put together a way to engage the community as best we can, starting with contests for all ages which have been running for the past month and then the awesome list of events for May 15th!”

As always, Springfield PrideFest is a FREE event open to all, so gather your family and join us virtually for an entertaining (and safe) celebration of diversity, equity, and pride. Join the streaming event, sponsored by UIS Performing Arts Department, by going to www.UISpac.com.

Springfield PrideFest is organized by the Phoenix Center, a 501c(3) nonprofit dedicated to promoting equality, wellbeing, and social and educational growth for LGBTQ individuals in central Illinois.
