The U.S. Supreme Court will be hearing a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade, Politico reported on Monday.
A Mississippi ban that has been blocked by lower courts since it was enacted in 2018, will be one of the first reproductive rights case argued since the conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed in October, the publication reported.
The law bans all abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.
Politico reported that the ban included exceptions for medical emergencies or a “severe” fetal abnormality, but not cases of rape or incest. A federal judge blocked the Mississippi law in 2018 which was upheld by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Similar state laws, including a six-week ban Mississippi passed last year, have also been blocked by lower courts.
