Pritzker welcomes Pride month

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker celebrated LGBTQ Pride month with a post on his Facebook page this week.

Pritzker has in the past been vocal in his support for the LGBTQ community and is a regular participant in Pride activities across Illinois.

“Celebrating the diversity of our society has been a cornerstone of my administration,” Pritzker said. “And during LGBTQ Pride Month, I remain committed to help Illinois become a beacon of hope for our LGBTQ+ community nationwide.

“Our state has brought inclusive LGBTQ+ curriculums into our schools. We expanded Medicaid coverage for gender affirming surgery. We required single occupancy restrooms be designated as gender neutral. And so much more.”

Other LGBTQ-inclusive bills passed the General Assembly this year and are now waiting for Pritzker’s signature, including the REACH Act, the marriage license modernization bill and HIV decriminalization.
