The city of Urbana declared June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month and raised the Pride flag over city hall this week.

The proclamation by Urbana Mayor Diane Wolfe Marlin and flag raising was broadcast on Urbana’s public access television station.

JoAnne Geigner of the Uniting Pride Center of Champaign County also spoke during the ceremony.

Marlin cited the Stonewall Rebellion and Urbana being one of the first cities to pass local LGBTQ protections during the proclamation, along with other LGBTQ milestones.
