Pride Drive-Thru Care-avan in southern Illinois


A coalition of groups and businesses are hosting a Pride caravan through several southern Illinois cities on Sunday, June 27.

Each community will have location where participants can stop for water, snacks and decorating supplies. The trail starts in Mount Vernon and ends in Carbondale. The full route:

  • Mt. Vernon -Mall parking lot next to Dominos/Waffle Company on Broadway: 9:30 a.m.
  • Harrisburg – The Women’s Center, 10:30 a.m.
  • West Frankfort – Location TBD; 10:30 a.m.
  • Johnston City – Location 401 Main Ave (Main Ave and 5th Street); 11:00 a.m.
  • Murphysboro – Hardee’s, 11:00 a.m.
  • Pinckneyville – Old Pinckneyville Parking Lot, 11:00 a.m.
  • DuQuoin – Keys Park, 136 N. Division St., 11:30 a.m.
  • Marion – The Pavilion, 11:30 a.m.
  • Makanda – B.C. Ross Community Center, 244 Makanda Rd, Makanda, IL 62958; 11:30 a.m.
  • Carbondale – 12:00 p.m.

When they get to Carbondale, participants will caravan around the Strip, 51 South, University Avenue, Wall, Route 13, and repeat back around the Strip multiple times.

The Varsity Center, a co-host, will livestream the caravan.

Other hosts include Southern Illinois Pride Fest, Gaia House and the Rainbow Café LGBTQ Youth Center.
