Mt. Carmel holds its first Pride festival


Mt. Carmel, in far Southeastern Illinois, had its first Pride festival on Saturday, June 26.

The festival in the town’s Merchants Park on Saturday afternoon and was sponsored by Mt. Carmel Rally for Justice and the Wabash County Democratic Central Committee.

The Mt. Carmel Rally for Justice said more than 100 people showed up for the event. Attendees were able to enjoy snowcones, a tie-dye station and open mic performances.

“We have received lots of positive comments and several people have already asked about next year!” said Michael Stinson with Mt. Carmel Rally for Justice. They do hope to make the festival an annual event.
