Chicago Therapy Collective to debut music video, call to action on TDOR
On Saturday Nov, 20, Chicago Therapy Collective will be releasing a music video and original cover of Wildfires (Sault, 2020) in honor of Trans Day of Resilience 2021 and the racial justice uprisings of 2020.
Wildfires will showcase the beauty, power, and resilience of transgender people while highlighting the intersections of anti-trans violence, anti-Black violence, and criminal injustice. Wildfires will feature artists: Chrisette Klima, Uzo, Naxo, Crispin Torres, Kai Black, and Darling Squire.
The release of Wildfires on Nov. 20 will also serve as a call to action to confront the violence rampant in Chicago and across the country with the coordinated release of:
- A call for the those in Chicago and Illinois to take action to support HB2542, (a piece of legislation vital to trans liberation and dignity that addresses Illinois having one of the most restrictive name-change barriers in the US).
- Resources to combat suicide amongst the trans community.
- Statements from Sean Connolly of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Myles Brady Davis of Equality Illinois, State Sen. Mike Simmons (D-Chicago), and Board President Alexis Martinez of Chicago Therapy Collective.
- A Press Tool Kit designed to support the media in advancing their trans-inclusionary reporting and explaining the urgent need to re-name Trans Day of Remembrance to Trans Day of Resilience.
Other sponsors for the video include the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Howard Brown Health Center, Equality Illinois, Chicago House, Human Rights Campaign Chicago, and State Senator Mike Simmons. Direct action resources can be found as of 12 p.m. on Nov. 20 at https://www.facebook.com/chitherapycollective/ and https://chicagotherapycollective.org/.
