Decatur resident accused of trying to kill neighbor for being gay


A 19-year-old man in Decatur has been accused with trying to kill his neighbor for being gay.

WAND-TV reported that Ethan Dickerson was arrested on Thursday for attempted first degree murder, home invasion, hate crime, aggravated unlawful restraint, and aggravated battery. Decatur police were called to a home because of a report of someone breaking a window on Thursday afternoon. The police entered the house when he heard calls for help and arrested Dickerson.

The TV station reported that the victim was a 60-year-old neighbor of Dickerson’s with multiple lacerations on his head.

According to the victim, when he asked why, Dickerson said “You know why I have to do this. You’re gay. You’re evil… I’m going to kill you.”

A Macon County judge set bond at $1 million., WAND reported.
