The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) on Wednesday endorsed JB Pritzker and Julianna Stratton for re-election as Illinois governor and lieutenant governor.
HRC Interim President Joni Madison released the following statement:
“Governor Pritzker and Lt. Governor Stratton have shown a strong, consistent, and impactful commitment to advancing LGBTQ+ rights across the state of Illinois. Gov. Pritzker signed a multitude of LGBTQ+ rights legislation to support a wide variety of pro-equality initiatives – from combating gender identity based discrimination in schools to promoting inclusivity and equity within the state government. And both leaders have consistently spoken out against the anti-LGBTQ+ political attacks taking place across our country. We are proud to endorse Gov. Pritzker and Lt. Governor Stratton for reelection and we’re ready to mobilize the people of Illinois this November.”
Pritzker and Stratton have consistently supported LGBTQ rights and needs since election in 2018. Pritzker has signed bills in support of the LGBTQ community including inclusive history and sex education bills, data collection, corporate equality, bills to widen access to PrEP and PEP, LGBTQ veteran support, jury service, LGBTQ seniors, HIV decriminalization, non-binary driver’s license options, increasing equity for HIV care in the Black community, among many others.
Their GOP opponents for office have an equally long list of anti-LGBTQ actions. Just in the past two weeks alone, both Darren Bailey and Stephanie Trussell have come under scrutiny because past anti-LGBTQ comments as well as comments about abortion and Muslims.
