Auditions for STC’s ‘The Christians’ set for Oct. 26

The Springfield Theater Centre is holding auditions for “The Christians” starting on Monday, Oct. 26. Another day of auditions is on Saturday, Oct. 29.

The play is set for performances March 24 through 26 and March 31 through April 2 in Theater 3.

Directed by Phil Funkenbusch, the play is about a church that grew from a storefront to a megachurch. The church’s founder is about to preach a sermon that will shake its foundations.

Auditionees will choose a time slot for your audition. These will be small group time slots. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Time slots will start at 9:30 am. and run one hour in length. Call-backs, if needed, will be Sunday, Oct. 30.

Characters in the play:

Paul, the Pastor Age: 40s-50s

Paul started a small, storefront church 20 years earlier. The church has now grown in to a popular mega-church. He is idealistic, but also wants to do the right thing. Has power affected him? Maybe. Who knows?

Elizabeth, Paul’s Wife Age: 40s-50s

Elizabeth has helped Paul as he has grown the small church into the mega-church it is today. She may miss those early days. Sometimes I think she is the smartest person in the play.

Joshua, Associate Pastor Age: 25-30s

Joshua was a troubled teen when he found this church. He has grown up in this church with Paul as as a mentor. He has been successful in bringing in more young people. He is a strong man.

Jay, a Church Elder Age: 30s-60s

Jay was part of the early days of the church when it was a small storefront with just a few members. He is a man of integrity and strong faith, and is also a good communicator. He might be a father-figure or older-brother figure for Pastor Paul.

Jenny, a Congregant – Choir Member Age: 30s-50s

Jenny loves this church, which she discovered when a young single mother in-need. She received a lot of help and resources from the congregation and is very loyal and devoted to this church.

There is also an ensemble or choir in the play. Four songs/hymns are sung during the play, and possibly be singing before the play begins. This could be an ensemble of 3 or 4 members, or an actual choir of several members. A choir director and musicians needed as well. If you are interested in this, please make a note of it in your audition form.
