The Rainbow Cafe LGBT Center will honor those lost due to anti-trans violence and transphobia at the Carbondale Civic Center.

The center said that nearly 400 trans people have died this past year solely due to transphobia, and according to Remembering Our Dead, the U.S. is the second most deadly place in the world for trans people.

Doors open at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20., where attendees can meet with trans-friendly and affirming Southern Illinois partners and organizers.

Speakers will begin at 6 p.m., leading to a visibility march and rally around the block against traffic up West Walnut, South University, West Main, and South Illinois Ave. Speakers will include Benito Goff, Alex Socorro, and Cy Chamberlain.

If you know a local trans person that has been lost to transphobia and would like them honored in the memorial, email [email protected].
