LGBTQ civil rights group Equality Illinois is calling on people to contact their state representatives and senators to support legislation during the lame duck session.
There are pieces of legislation affecting reproductive and LGBTQ rights in the upcoming lame duck session, including the Gender Affirming Healthcare Protection Act, SB4245, which would make Illinois a sanctuary state for transgender people.
The proposed law would prohibit “a law enforcement officer from knowingly participating in the arrest of an individual pursuant to an out-of-state arrest warrant issued solely on the basis of the individual providing, authorizing, aiding, assisting, receiving, or otherwise allowing a child to receive gender-affirming care or referring a child for such care.”
If passed, the law would make Illinois only the second state after California to be a trans sanctuary state.
